What to Expect
Personal Photo or Video Shoot
From helping you choose outfits to guiding your poses, helping you tack up the horses to sweeping the yard, we're with you every step of the way.
If you’ve never had a photoshoot before (or feel a little nervous!), here’s exactly what to expect, how to prepare, and what you’ll walk away with.
1. A Pre-Shoot Consultation (online or over the phone)
Before the shoot, we’ll have a relaxed chat about:
-
The type of photos you love
-
Your vision and style
-
Whether your horse, pets or family will join
-
Locations
-
Outfit ideas
-
What you want the final images to achieve
2. Help Choosing Outfits & Styling
You don’t need a huge wardrobe - just pieces that feel comfortable and confident whilst being photographed.
I’ll guide you through colours, textures and layering that work beautifully on camera, especially for:
-
Equestrian portraits
-
Country lifestyle imagery
-
Personal branding and small business shoots
-
Soft, natural outdoor portraits
(See the What to Wear section below for more ideas.)
3. A Calm, Relaxed Shooting Environment
Most people start the day saying, “I’m awkward in front of the camera!”, and finish up feeling confident.
I’ll guide you through:
-
Poses that flatter your shape
-
Natural movements
-
What to do with your hands
-
How to stand, sit, walk or interact with your horse
4. Time to Settle In
The first 10–15 minutes are to get to know you and the location, and a few warm-up shots.
We take it slow, ease into the session, and get you and the horses feeling comfortable in a different environment.
5. Beautiful Location Choices
Whether we shoot:
-
On your yard
-
At home
-
On the beach
-
In woodland
-
At sunset in a field
-
Or another location in Cornwall or the surrounding counties
I’ll choose the best angles and natural light to create the best imagery.
6. A Photoshoot Tailored to You
Your session can range from fun and relaxed with a casual and natural aesthetic, to atmospheric and editorial with statement outfits and locations. Based on our initial consultation, your final edit will be made just for you. No two shoots are the same.
7. Experience Working With Horses
If this is an equestrian photoshoot, you’re in safe hands.
I work with horses regularly and know how to:
-
Keep them calm
-
Choose safe positions
-
Find flattering angles for both horse and rider
-
Work around their quirks
-
Take breaks when needed
8. A Professionally Edited Gallery
After your shoot, I hand-select the best images and edit them in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Your final gallery will be delivered within 5 working days. You'll have access via a private online link with full quality downloads that can easily be shared with friends and family.
What to Wear
Here’s how to choose outfits that look amazing in your final images:
Both simple and statement works! Try and stay with neutral colours (cream, navy, olive, burgundy, pastels - nothing too patterned), soft fabrics that move (knitwear, cotton, linen), and bring an outfit change.
For equestrian shoots:
-
Clean, polished boots
-
Coordinated horse accessories
-
Smart or dressy outfit for one look
-
Something casual for a second look
-
Rugs or saddle pads in complementary colours
-
Avoid dresses that will get caught between your feet
Hair and makeup:
Whether you want to go glam or natural, go with what you feel is comfortable. Bring a hairbrush (bare in mind you'll get flyaways in the wind outside, and hat hair if you are having mounted equestrian shots, and a lip balm with a little colour.
Extras to bring with you
-
Spare layers
-
Baby wipes for your horses nose and any travel marks
-
A drink
-
Treats for pets and horses
